Born in Epping, Matt grew up in Kent, bought his 1st camera at the age of ten years, and commenced experimenting with a 35mm camera as a young person, fidgeting with distortion and colours. This led him to attend what was then the varsity of Art and style in Medway to review advertising and editorial photography.

His 1st job was as assistant Jill Furmanovsky, that led him to figure with Mel Yates, Nick Yates and Normski, till finally he may get his own studio with Mel Yates.

During the first 90's, Indie (Alternative) was during a transition amount in Britain, at the highest to become the mainstream.

Small Indie music magazines (alternative) runs with dark bands like Blur documented, The Inspiral Carpets and Carter USM, one among those magazines, Lizard Lick, gave Matt gave his 1st chance, and therefore was ready to photograph the primary races of bands as Pearl Jam and Nirvana and others related to the movement "Grunge".
