Philippe Halsman was born May 2, 1906 in Riga. He was a great photographer. It is thanks to his talent he was in a list of the famous photographers in the world of the twentieth century, compiled by the magazine «Popular Photographer» in 1958.

In his youth he had not made plans for this profession. But destiny had planned otherwise. His family was quite wealthy. Philip, being a very gifted child, graduated from high school the best pupil, despite the less than ideal behavior. He had many hobbies, including photography, it was easy for languages. But in choosing a profession he chose engineering, having left in 1924 to Germany to go to Dresden University in Electrical Engineering Department.

But Philip was destined to finish it was not. Since four years later, in 1928, when climbing in the Austrian Alps, his father had an accident, resulting in a successful dentist Latvian mass Halsman died. As the sole witness to the incident, Philip became the only suspect. And as a result of the trial, was sentenced for parricide to ten years in prison. Could help him except a miracle. In 1940, the beginning of World War II, Halsman emigrated to America. Not without difficulties in obtaining visas, but with the support of the same Einstein. And there, on another continent, the destiny gives him familiarity with another great man of that time - artist Salvador Dali. In general, moving Halsman was the beginning of a fruitful stage. Philip was still focused on portrait photography. His model, of course, a very famous person. His idea - to make pictures that show the true nature of man.

It is worth noting that the first monument to the photographer in the world was established in honor of the centennial anniversary of Philippe Halsman, in 2006.
